Cartel 5513 v.1 revisited

Decided to fettle my v.1 Cartel 5513 with the infamous stubby crown guards. What I like about this case, compared to the new generation, are the slimmer lugs. Apart from tweaking the crown guards, I relumed the Helenarou dial and combination hand set (Clark hour hand and Helenarou minute hand). Intime recently released a bunch of 5513/1680/etc from JKF factory (Cartel). I asked jtime to help me source this in 21j version.

Well I succumbed to the need to take a closer look at the updated Cartel 5513 and ordered one from Josh. http://www.pf-818.com/-p-9481.html. At long last we can say goodbye to to the stubby crown guards, a good excuse for me start another build. Here we go.

Custom builds on a Cartel case are drastically easier vs Gen Spec - movement rings are plentiful, dial opening is perfect, crown tube height exact. However - if budget is not a concern, a Vietnam/Phong gen spec case is miles closer to gen. The BP has all the characteristics you clearly depicted, while the cartel/JKF still has 26 mm dial, better date wheel overlay, pressure fit friction bezel with gen like construction, better crown shape. (Cartel cases are no longer spec. for fitting crystals). The best part of paying for a 5513 replacement case from MQ or other high end case makers, is that you can either use an ETA adapter ring from Yuki or put a real 1520 rolex movement in them when you get the funds.

I honestly prefer that Cartel/BP uses the 6mm crown instead of the 5.3 on gen, solely for crown operation. 5.3 is way too tiny to control especially with crownguards. The Rolex Submariner 5513 is a vintage no-date Submariner, introduced in 1962. Intended to be a more affordable version of the highly successful ref 5512 released a few years prior, it features a non-chronometer certified movement. It's the cartel 5513 case. Mine is similarly marked STAILESS STEEL and has the same SN, caseback says 5512 on mine. Looks like you've trimmed the fat stubby crown guards down and drilled the lugholes.

The indictment alleges they all operated under the overall control of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. From Dec. 28, 2018, to April 22, 2020, the conspirators allegedly operated in and out of the Southern District of Texas (SDTX) and distributed drugs smuggled into the United States from Mexico.
